‘Pachinko’ book versus TV series

I loved reading the book PACHINKO by Min Jin Lee. It’s a gripping story from start to finish about a Korean family through multiple generations, with the setting being in a colonized Korea and later in Japan.

Now halfway through the eight-episode series (season one) of the TV adaptation of ‘Pachinko’ on Apple TV+, I can’t say that I am loving the way the story is unfolding on-screen.

Yes, I am probably biased because I read the book before watching the series.

Cheers to a new decade

The next time I can say ‘cheers to a new decade’ is 10 years from now.

So, I’ll say it today. Cheers to a new decade, and hello 2020.

Every end and start of a new year I get all sentimental, emotional and reflective. Sometimes I jot down specific goals, wishes and plans. Sometimes I decide on a ‘theme word’ to define the year, as suggested by Claire Diaz-Ortiz.

Oh, Mother

I spent more than half a year without my mom.
It's been half a year since the last time I spoke to her, saw her, hugged her, touched her.
I still unconsciously expect a text from her to come anytime now.
